Dr. Cirino has been a physician for more than 20 years. His specialties include internal medicine, infectious diseases, and public health. After finishing college with a bachelor’s in microbiology and minor in American literature, he went directly to medical school but took a two month backpacking trip around Europe and got to learn a lot about himself and others through the process! Following medical school, he received approximately 4 years of residency with a 2 year interval in between residency and fellowship, where he received his MPH and worked at the GWUMC as an instructor, with a year as a physician at a student health center. He returned to GWUMC for his fellowship in infectious diseases. His interest in HIV and tropical medicine attracted him to the more specialized training.

In this episode of Healthcare Spotlights, we interviewed Dr. Sean Wilkinson, DO, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. We discuss Osgood-Schlatter disease, a chronic condition of the knee. Listen as we talk about the symptoms, treatments, and more on this condition!
Dr. Sean Wilkinson is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon who sub-specializes in sports medicine procedures. His particular areas of interest include shoulder and knee injuries. Dr Wilkinson completed his ACGME accredited fellowship at Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Cincinnati, OH. There he was one of the team physicians for the Cincinnati Reds major league baseball team, as well as traveled to spring training to take care of their minor league affiliates. When he was not taking care of the Reds, Dr. Wilkinson was head team physician at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio as well as Princeton High School in Cincinnati. Dr. Wilkinson completed his Residency program and medical school training at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Here he was heavily invested in all orthopaedic care and procedures, but also took time to work closely with the physicians who care for the Philadelphia professional sports teams including the Philadelphia Eagles, 76ers, Phillies, and Flyers. He also spent his free time covering local rugby and hockey teams.

In this episode of Healthcare Spotlights, we interviewed Dr. Leon Barkodar, MD ABPN, a neurologist who is a headache and migraine specialist in Los Angeles. He is double boarded certified in neurology and brain injury medicine. We will be discussing more about headaches and migraines!

Ella Davar RD, CDN, is a registered dietitian, nutritionist and health counselor based in New York City. Ella studied nutrition and food science at New York University and completed her professional dietetic practice at Priority Nutrition Care at Mount Sinai Hospital and has over 5 years of experience in health and wellness coaching. Ella began her career at one of the top hospitals in the nation, seeing a wide range of patients, from those who were looking to prevent disease to those with critical illnesses. To further her education, Ella studied integrative nutrition at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.Ella draws on her vast experience as a dietitian while also taking a holistic approach to make recommendations that fit each person’s lifestyle and health goals to help her clients achieve optimum wellness. Her unique background in both clinical and holistic nutrition enables her to create extremely impactful, individualized plans.Ella’s career was inspired by her own struggles with health. A native of Southern California, Dr. Kieu received her medical degree, with honors, from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona. She completed her residency in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Michigan State University/Detroit Medical Center, where she was chief resident. In addition, she completed a prestigious fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Toronto. She has authored numerous papers and presentations for peer-reviewed medical journals and conferences.
The daughter of an anesthesiologist and a pediatrician, Dr. Kieu is a skilled practitioner with a broad range of academic and clinical interests in head and neck conditions. She is also a committed humanitarian-physician, having performed facial reconstructive and head and neck procedures in underserved provinces of Vietnam and Malawi. In her many medical missions, she has performed general otolaryngology procedures as well as dozens of cleft lip and palate correctional surgeries, which restore appearance, dignity, and function to her patients.
Dr. Kieu was recently named one of LA’s Top Docs by Los Angeles Magazine. She is a member of many major medical organizations, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery; American Osteopathic Colleges of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery; American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery; American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery; and the American Rhinologic Society. Dr. Kieu is passionate about teaching, and currently serves as assistant clinical professor for the Department of Surgical Services at Michigan State University. As a leading expert in her field, Dr Kieu frequently lectures and demonstrates her aesthetic techniques to other physicians and health care providers.

Upon earning his bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and minor in business administration from Drexel University, Dr. Shah pursued his dental education at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Shah further trained at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh where he acquired extensive experience in the areas of growth and development, pediatric oral pathology, special health care needs, dental trauma, pharmacological modalities and behavior modification/management. She then went to Tufts University School of Medicine, where she graduated with Research Honors and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She was also awarded the American Medical Women’s Association Glasgow-Rubin Academic Achievement Award for graduating in the top of her class and and the William Dameshek Award for Research Excellence.
